MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH PASTRY TEAM CHAMPIONDHIP AND FORUM

I have never blogged before so hope this goes alright. People have told me I should blog. Maybe it is a kind way to say my e-mails are too long.
Anyway the reason I am finally doing a blog is that I have a passion for the pastry championship and the forum and really hope that my ramblings will give someone that little spark that says "yes, I want to be a part of that"!
I am not a pastry professional, but I have a passion for pastry. I have been entering baked goods in the California state fair for over 20 years. I wake up in the middle of the night and write down ideas for chocolate creations. I would start telling people at work about them, and they would just roll their eyes, as if to say."there she goes again". I would tell them, "look I do not have a significant other, I do not have a prince charming, I dream of chocolate truffles." Feedback from the judges at the fair gave me the courage to enter culinary school. I am now working toward my pastry certificate at college and am about 50 years older then most of my fellow students.
My love affair with the competition began way back in January of 2002. I was watching TV with my daughter Pam. The Food network was on. There was this crazy competition held in Beaver Creek Colorrado I think. I was glued to the set. I had never seen anything like that before. I went to sleep thinking of all the beautiful creations I had seen.

The next morning my daughter had this sort of funny look on her face. When you live with someone you know when something is going on. I said, " what's up?". she said that she had just done something for me that was my next birthday, gift, Christmas gift, mother's day gift, and any other gift I am entitled to! I of course asked her what it was, and she said "You are going to go watch the next pastry competition!" Not only was I gong, but she had bought me VIP tickets.

I said,"I am going to Colorado?" She told me that no, the competition was moving to Las Vegas. She said that she knew I had been wanting to take a trip and that was a good excuse. I told her I had never drove that far before, and she said she knew I could do it.

So I was on my way to Las Vegas. I got to the Rio Hotel and was so excited. I finally got to sleep and the next morning I went to my "free breakfast buffet" It was a perk with the VIP package. It was said to be "Breakfast with the contestants and judges" Well, I knew the contestants were too busy getting ready to hob nob with anyone. Anyway I was sitting at a table and a nanny and her two young boy charges were coming toward my table. I said, "oh, I will leave and there will be more room for you." The tall man with a black tee shirt on, that said "Carymax" on it, said "Oh no, stay, you will enjoy my boys"
And that is how I met Michael Well it is 3 am and I should stop typing for now. Tune iin tomorrow for my Journey .
